2nd December – Footballing Birthdays
Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips celebrates his 29th birthday today. Phillips is currently out on loan with Ipswich Town and spent time on loan at West Ham United earlier this year. He joined City from Leeds United back in 2022 and has 31 England caps to his name.
Francesco Toldo is 53 today. The Italian goalkeeper won 28 caps for his country between 1995 and 2004, but would have many more had Gigi Buffon not been on the scene.
Toldo spent the majority of his career at Fiorentina and Inter Milan before retiring at the age of 38.
Today is David Batty’s 56th birthday. The tenacious midfielder started his career at Leeds United where he won the Second and First Division before moving to Blackburn Rovers where he won Premier League. Batty then spent two years on Tyneside with Newcastle United before ending his career back at Leeds. He won 42 caps for England, famously missing the all-important final penalty against Argentina at France ’98.
Former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is 35 today. The Italian defender is currently playing for Inter Milan, the arch-rivals of AC Milan (the club where he started his professional career).
Darmian has also played for Padova, Palermo, Torino and Parma as well as playing 46 times for his nation.
Jordon Mutch is 33 today. Mutch became Birmingham City’s second-youngest player back in 2008 and played for eight Football League clubs in England during his career. More recently, he has played in Canada, South Korea, Norway and is currently playing for the Gold Coast Knights in Australia.
Former Southampton, Hull City and Middlesbrough attacker Gaston Ramirez celebrates his 34th birthday today.
Adam Le Fondre is 38 today. He is currently playing at FC United of Manchester, but also had a successful career in the Football League with Rochdale, Rotherham United and Reading amongst other clubs.
