Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Brentford

Brentford’s commemorative third shirt 2019/20

Good – ‘Commemorative’ Third shirt 2019/20
This is the last season that Brentford will be playing at Griffin Park, their home for the last 115 years.
In their fourth game at Griffin Park, Brentford played against Millwall Athletic and won 2-0 for their first win at their new ground.
In their last season at the ground, it was decided to bring out a commemorative third shirt and wore it in the same fixture all those years on. History repeated itself as The Bees got the win that they were looking for on 19th October 2019, winning 3-2.

The shirt was made up of a single dark blue colour and the crest and sponsors adverts on the shirt were in gold.
‘Farewell Griffin Park’ was stitched onto the back of the neck of the shirt. It really was a class shirt.

The Brentford home shirt for the 1989/90 season

Bad – Home shirt 1989/90
Brentford’s home shirt in the 1988/89 and 1989/90 had the same narrow stripe design and there was a slight change in this, the one from the 89/90 season. The kit manufacturers name moved from the right to the middle of the shirt but it didn’t detract the attention away from the stripes which were dazzling to say the least!
The Brentford fans were subjected to this design for two seasons before they reverted back to more thicker stripes. They haven’t gone back to this design since.

2018/19 away shirt

Ugly – Away shirt 2018/19
I don’t know what the designer of this shirt was thinking when they chose these colours, but for me they are awful!
A vile light brown colour is the main colour of the shirt with a white horizontal stripe and a pale orange on the shoulders. Disgusting!
