Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Aston Villa

Good – 2000/01 Home shirt
This home shirt from the 2000/01 season was lovely and simplistic in its design.
The ‘ntl:’ advert on the front also added a bit of colour and the shirt was very smart.

Bad – Home shirt 1999/00
Villa’s home shirt from the 1999/00 season has the dubious of honour of reaching the ‘Bad’ section of the ‘Good, Bad and Ugly’.

The club’s home shirts tended to be their dark maroon with blue sleeves but they brought out a shirt with wide vertical stripes instead.

It was a successful season for Aston Villa and they reached the FA Cup Final for the first time since 1957.  They wore the shirt in the Final against Chelsea which was the last at the old Wembley Stadium.  Unfortunately for Villa they lost the game 1-0.

Ugly – Away shirt 1993-95
This certainly has to be one of the ugliest shirts of the Premier League era.  It was made of black and green vertical stripes with a narrow red trim.  1993/94 was a successful season for Villa as they won the Coca Cola Cup, beating Manchester United 3-1 in the Final.  The win was all the more impressive as United went on to win the League and FA Cup Double that season.
The following season saw the addition of Villa’s sponsor ‘Muller’ across the front of the shirt.
