On This Day – 19th January
A 2-1 home win over Tottenham Hotspur in 1997 took Nottingham Forest out of the relegation zone for the first time in two months.
Andy Sinton gave the visitors the lead in the first few minutes of the game after Forest were unable to clear a long throw on the right.
Dutchman Bryan Roy equalised for Forest shortly after the restart before adding his second after Ian Walker couldn’t hold a long shot from Chris Bart-Williams.
Unfortunately for Forest fans, they would only win one of their final fifteen games of the season and they were relegated after finishing bottom of the table. That final win came in March against……Tottenham!
