Godalming Town lost 2-1 at home to Billinghurst on Saturday, in front of their biggest crowd of the season.

A goal in the 36th minute from captain Luke Beale gave The G’s a much-deserved lead. It came from a free kick that was crossed in from 30 yards out on the right wing.
Beale leapt higher than his marker and thumped a header powerfully into the back of the net from close range.

The visitors equalised in the final seconds of stoppage time, much to the frustration of the home fans. Billingshurst’s Matt McAlpine found a gap in the Godalming defence and poked the ball past goalkeeper Adrian Giles.

In the second half, Billingshurst took control of the game and were rewarded with the winning goal in the 66th minute. A corner was whipped in from the left and it bounced twice in front of goal before Tommy Colbran stuck his foot out and prodded in the visitor’s second goal of the afternoon.

Godalming now have a week to prepare for their next game, a home tie against Badshot Lea in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.
