On This Day – 23rd September
It was on this day in 1992 that a seventeen-year-old called David Beckham made his Manchester United debut, in a League Cup tie away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Becks came on as a substitute for Andrei Kanchelskis in the 72nd minute. A chorus of “Who the f*****g hell are you?” echoed around the Goldstone Ground as he went onto the pitch. No one knew him then, but the whole world would in the next few years!
David Beckham is now one of the most recognisable faces on the planet, thanks to his football career and his celebrity lifestyle because of his marriage to former Spice Girl Victoria. He is a brand as well as a former footballer and now has a net worth of $450 million.
During his time at Manchester United, Beckham won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League trophy. He was also the runner up in the Ballon d’Or in 1999. In all, he made 394 appearances for United before he left for Real Madrid in 2003.
It has been an incredible 29 years for David Beckham since he made his Manchester United debut on that Wednesday night in Brighton!
