On This Day – 2nd June
This is only slightly football-related, but on this day in 1985 Pope John Paul II visited Cardiff City’s Ninian Park ground.
He spoke at a Youth Rally in front of 30,000 spectators at Cardiff’s home and is probably one of the most famous people to have visited the stadium. City left Ninian Park in 2009 after playing there for 99 years to move to a new 33,280 all-seater stadium.
