It was on this day back in 2004 that Deportivo La Coruna completed an incredible comeback against AC Milan in the Champions League to qualify for the Semi Finals.

Trailing 3-1 from the first leg, Deportivo managed to beat the Italians 4-0 at the Riazor. A pulsating first-half saw the Spanish side go 3-0 up to level the aggregate score at 4-4. Their experienced captain Fran completed the remarkable comeback with a goal in the 76th minute.

Going into the game, AC Milan had won the elite European competition five times. It was Deportivo’s fourth successive season in the competition, but they had never progressed beyond the Quarter Final stage.

Milan have gone on to win two further Champions League titles and the following season would be Deportivo’s last appearance in the competition. They now play in the Segunda B, the third tier in Spanish football.
