Steve Bull scored twice for England as they beat Czechoslovakia on this day in 1990, as both sides prepared for the forthcoming World Cup in Italy.
The Czechs took the lead on ten minutes, with Tomas Skuhravy nodding in from close range. Steve Bull then equalised for England in the 17th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the area after a beautiful scooped pass from Paul Gascoigne.
Six minutes later, Stuart Pearce scored after the visitors failed to deal with a corner. Steve Bull added England’s third in the 55th minute with a header from an excellent cross from Paul Gascoigne.
Lubos Kubik made it 3-2 with a low free kick past substitute goalkeeper David Seaman before Paul Gascoigne scored England’s fourth and final goal in the 89th minute.
At the World Cup, both sides performed well but were both knocked out by West Germany. Czechoslovakia lost 1-0 in the Quarter Finals and England went out on penalties in the Semis.
