When England took to the field to play Albania on this day in 2001, they had seven Manchester United among the ranks!
David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Andy Cole, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes all started the match, with Wes Brown and Teddy Sheringham coming on to represent the reigning champions in the second half.
In 1934, England had seven Arsenal players start for them in a friendly against Italy. The match was also played at Highbury, so the players knew their way around the pitch and dressing rooms at Arsenal’s former home!
England won 3-1 in the match against Albania, with Paul Scholes and Andy Cole scoring in the final minutes. The victory helped England on their way to qualify for the World Cup the following year.
