On This Day – 14th February

Bob Paisley, one of the greatest English managers of all-time, passed away on this day back in 1996.

Paisley spent fifteen years as a player at Liverpool before embarking on a nine-year spell of almost complete dominance as manager of the Merseysiders.
In Paisley’s nine years in charge at Anfield, Liverpool won 20 trophies. They lifted the First Division title six times, three European Cups, three consecutive League Cups, the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup and six Charity Shields.

The only trophy that eluded Paisley was the FA Cup. He did reach one Final in 1977, only to lose 2-1 to Manchester United. The Liverpool fans were still treated to a League title and European Cup in that season though, so they still had reason to be happy!
