On This Day – 19th January
Oldham Athletic recorded an 11-2 victory over Chester on this day back in 1952, with Eric Gemmell scoring seven of the Latics goals.
The seven that Gemmell scored that afternoon at Boundary Park is the record number of goals scored by an Oldham Athletic player in a match.
This demolition of Chester remained Oldham’s record league win for ten years until Southport came to Boundary Park for a Fourth Division game in December 1962. The Latics again scored eleven goals but this time they kept a clean sheet in a thumping 11-0 win.
