Michael Carrick moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United on this day back in 2006 in a deal worth just over £18.5 million.
Carrick was part of the West Ham United Youth Cup winning side at the start of the millennium and came through the Academy at Upton Park with the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Frank Lampard. He soon started a fantastic midfield partnership with Paul Scholes in the centre of United’s midfield.
Carrick hadn’t enjoyed the best of times at White Hart Lane with Spurs and jumped at the chance of joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s United side. He stayed at Old Trafford until he retired at the end of the 2017128 season at the age of 36.
In his time at Old Trafford, Carrick won 11 major honours. This included five Premier League titles, one Champions League, one Europa League, two League Cups, one FA Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also won six Charity Shields.
On an international level, Carrick played 34 times for England but never managed to score a goal for the Three Lions. He made over 700 appearances for club and country over his career.
