Alfredo Di Stefano before kick-off in the 1960 European Cup Final

It was on this day 60 years ago that Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt in one of the great European Finals of all-time.
Real won 7-3 at Hampden Park in Scotland in front of an enormous crowd of 127,621 to record their fifth successive European Cup.

Richard Kress scored for Frankfurt to open the scoring after 16 minutes before Alfredo Di Stefano scored twice and Ferenc Puskas added a third before the break.
Puskas scored a penalty on 56 minutes before completing his hat-trick on the hour mark.

A crazy four minute spell from 71 to 75 minutes saw four goals. Ferenc Puskas scored Real’s sixth and his fourth of the game on 71 minutes.
Erwin Stein scored a minute later for Frankfurt to make the score 6-2 before Di Stefano added his third on 73 minutes.
On 75 minutes, Stein scored his second and that finally finished the scoring for the game!

It remains the highest scoring European Cup Final and is highly unlikely that it will be equalled or even surpassed.
