On This Day -21st March
It was on this day in 1874 that the first Scottish FA Cup Final was played.
The Scottish Final was played two years after the inaugural FA Cup Final in England. The finalists were Queen’s Park and Clydesdale.
3,000 fans watched on as Billy MacKinnon and Robert Leckie scored for Queen’s Park in a 2-0 win.
Clydesdale’s fortunes declined after this and the club was dissolved in 1881.
Queen’s Park on the other hand have had a lot more honours but nothing of any note since winning the second tier of the Scottish League in 1955/56.
They won ten Scottish FA Cups between 1874 and 1893 in the most successful time of the club’s history.
