An Interview with…Peter Haddock

A slightly different approach this week as instead of a Question and Answer session, I have some notes below from Peter Haddock, the former Newcastle United, Burnley and Leeds United player. I will list his career statistics at the bottom of the page.

When I made my debut for Newcastle United, it was a dream come true. Newcastle were my home town club so it was great.
I had a spell out on loan at Burnley during my time at St James’s Park for first team action. I then left Newcastle United as I wanted to play more games.

It was at Leeds United where I had the proudest moment of my career when I was awarded the Leeds United Player of the Year in 1988.
I scored a fantastic goal against Swindon Town at Elland Road once. I played a one-two with John Stiles, beat two players and shot past Tim Flowers.

The Leeds United team that won the Second Division Championship was a great side. The best game in my career was when we played away at Bournemouth and won the Second Division Championship in May 1990.

I had to retire because of injury when I was at Leeds United and the club were kind enough to give me a testimonial. Bradford City were the opponents and it was played during the 1993/94 season.

The greatest players that I played alongside in my career were Peter Beardsley at Newcastle United and Gordon Strachan at Leeds United.
Gary Lineker was my toughest opponent.

I am currently working for the Royal Mail in my retirement years.
