Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Leicester City
Good – home shirt 1998-2001
This is my favourite Leicester City shirt, mainly because it was the shirt that they were wearing when Robbie Savage got hit in the League Cup Final!
The shirt was manufactured by Fox Leisure for two seasons before Le Coq Sportif took over the same shirt for the third season.
The shirt was a simple blue colour with a thin white stripe down the side of the shirt and sleeves. The white collar also had a thin blue line on it.
Rarely do the sponsors on the shirt make it look better but I think that the yellow and red Walkers Crisps logo makes the shirt look perfect.
Bad – away shirt 1983 – 85
Aargh! Pinstripes! This shirt is very 1980’s and it is not the nicest of shirts in my opinion.
The shirt was made up of vertical yellow and green pinstripes on a green shirt with yellow and greencollar and cuffs. Luckily, Leicester have never reverted back to this design since, as has been the recent trend to give a retro look to new shirts. The shirt can remain in the history books and at the back of wardrobes across Leicestershire!
Ugly – away shirt 1995/96
It’s almost a tie between this shirt and the Bad one away shirt from 1983-85. I just don’t know what the designer at Fox Leisure was thinking when they went for this design of turquoise and dark blue halves. The design makes the shirt look more like something that would be worn by a jockey in the Grand National and not by City players playing in the First Division at the time!
