Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Bristol City

Bristol City home shirt of the time

Good – 1977-81 Home shirt
This home shirt was worn in the late 70’s into the early 80’s. Sponsored by Umbro, their logo appeared on the right of the chest and also in strips down the sleeve. The traditional badge was larger than usual on the left of the shirt but it looks great!

Bad – 1993/94 Third shirt
I couldn’t find much out online about this shirt but the picture above is of a shirt that was listed as ‘match-worn’ so City must have worn it at least once.
The away kit of this season was worn when City won 1-0 in a replay against Liverpool at Anfield, which then turned out to be the last FA Cup game in front of the famous Kop terrace.
The kit that was was worn in the game against Liverpool consisted of a purple shirt and lime green shorts and has turned into a cult kit. An updated version of it was brought out by the kit manufacturers in 2015, much to the joy of the Ashton Gate faithful!

The third shirt from the 1999/00 season

Ugly – Third Shirt 1999/00
Anyone who thinks that lime green deserves to be on a football shirt is sadly mistaken in my opinion. It can be used (sparingly!) in a goalkeepers shirt but vertical lime green and a couple of shades of fading dark blue just look terrible.
