Iconic Moments In Football No. 7
Andy Dibble left embarrassed by a momentary lapse of concentration!
A moment of ingenuity from Nottingham Forest’s Gary Crosby left Manchester City goalkeeper Andy Dibble red-faced in today’s installment of Iconic Moments In Football.
Dibble had caught a cross into his box with ease and he stood with no one around him as Nottingham Forest and Manchester City players jogged upfield to wait for Dibble’s clearance.
There was a Forest player (Gary Crosby) behind Dibble but he hadn’t been spotted by the City goalkeeper.
Andy Dibble held the ball and was about to clear the ball upfield when Gary Crosby ducked around from behind him and cheekily nodded the ball out of Dibble’s outstretched hand.
By the time the City goalkeeper had started to remonstrate with the referee, Crosby had already hit the ball into the unguarded net. I have added a video of the incident below:
The goal stood and Nottingham Forest won the game 1-0. Whilst trying to find the video of the incident above, I also managed to find a piece that was broadcast on television a few weeks after. It’s quite interesting to hear about it from the goalkeeper’s point of view.
It also shows him making a deliberate look over both of his shoulders when he had the ball in his hands in the next match against Arsenal.
