Iconic Moments in Football No.38
This week’s ‘Iconic Moment’ comes from Georgian striker Temuri Ketsbaia.
The moment wasn’t a goal or a piece of skill but his rather strange celebration following a last-minute winner during his time at Newcastle United.
Ketsbaia came on as a substitute and fired in a last-minute winner at the far post in a league match with against Bolton Wanderers.
He proceeded to rip his shirt off and throw it in to the crowd and began removing a boot. A team mate came and tried to hug him and Ketsbaia broke free from his team mates’ grasp and kicked a nearby advertising hoarding.
He proceeded to kick the hoarding twice more in an almost animalistic rage leaving all in St James’ Park more than a little bemused to say the least!
The Georgian had been out of the team for a while and he said that the celebration was him taking out all of his frustrations in a crazy few seconds!
Much to Ketsbaia’s disappointment, this iconic celebration is what most people remember of his time in the North East. It was definitely a memorable celebration!
